9/10/2023: Nice day for Nice (France)

Our game plan for the day was to travel by train to Nice, then to Monaco, and then back to Cannes What we didn’t realize is how cool Nice would be.

When we got off the train it didn’t seem like much (or we were tainted from our day exploring in Cannes). The train dropped us off near the main drag and we headed by foot down Avenue Jean Médecin which turned out to be amazing. We enjoyed dollar stores, slushy bars, gelaterias, and fine shopping along the whole stretch. Nice is so lively, reasonably priced, and has great shopping!

When we got down towards the beach there was an amazing vibe. Rugby fans were crowing bars and the Nice Iron Man was mid race!

Sav enjoyed the tourist shopping towards the main beach and my main job was to find an aperol spritz under $10. Not as easy as it sounds! Regardless of it being cheaper than Cannes, beachfront Nice was not pocket friendly.

We opted to make our way back to the Nice train station in order to find a reasonably priced drink. We stopped at a rugby bar that was packed an hour prior and the waitress was so rude! We wanted to split a drink and our waitress responded “No that is not possible! IMpossible I say, IMMM-POSssible.” We bargained with her every which way but she was steadfast that the bartender just couldn’t let us split a drink! Frickin’ French people showing their true colors. Maybe we didn’t present ourselves as friendly as we had in the past but this waitress wanted some trouble. There was absolutely no way she would let us only order ONE $16 drink?

We found a hotdog shop in the middle of town square that served beer and cocktails as well. However, they only took orders from a large touchscreen near the bar….Probably would have been faster had the four employees standing twiddling their thumbs helped us and the other patrons who were struggling to order. Then off to Monaco.
